This post is here to inspire new styles and ways of living. We aim to give you ideas on colours, ornamentation, furniture and more; so continue reading if you are interested in finding out more about the world of ästhetik magazine's interior designs.

Scandinavian

It is pretty obvious that in the uppermost regions of the northern atmosphere, the climate isn't that warm... almost all year round; and that is a great reason as to why the typical Scandinavian abode is decorated to be as cosy and warm as possible. Decorated with blankets, leather sofas, warm white lightbulbs and log burner fires - they all piece together wonderfully to induce a real sense of heat when living in the coldest of conditions. This shows that it is true, that furniture and a way of life can affect the way one lives their day-to-day lives.

Contemporary

This, on the other hand, is extremely different to that of a Norwegian mountain retreat, but more like a Manhattan apartment. Fresh lines and pure white worktops finished with marble trims scream a modern feel to this type of interior. The fact that you can add almost any colour to a contemporary designed house shows that there is really no limit to the way that you can go about decorating, it is meant to seem as though you're almost in an art gallery, with high ceilings and large glass windows letting in as much light as possible.

Hygge

The word 'Hygge' originates from old Norwegian, where it means something along the lines of 'Well-Being' and a way of life, or a mindset. However, nowadays it is seen as a design element full of patterns in colours such as pale grey and white with touches of warmth in the earthy tones. When using an essence of Hygge within your home - it is essential to include some of the following:

  • Warm-white lighting (LED strips, Bulbs, Lanterns)

  • Thick knit blankets and throws.

  • Tan leather (wherever possible)

  • Worn or distressed items made from wood

  • Log or multi-fuel Burners

It is important to not use any harsh lighting or furniture which could spoil to overall effect of Hygge as it is all about the soft and muffled tones which seep through in the subtle light of the home.
