IAMISIGO
"Our practice centers on unconventional natural fibers, reclaimed materials, and ancestral craftsmanship. We work primarily with cotton, banana fibers, raffia, Barkcloth, recycled aluminum, recycled glass, brass and natural organic dyes. These raw elements are transformed through traditional backstrap and frame loom weaving, hand-knitting, intricate beadwork, glass blowing and indigenous metal casting techniques that preserve hand-made irregularities while pushing structural boundaries."
'IAMISIGO is a contemporary wearable art practice based in Lagos, Nairobi, and Accra. The brand uses fashion and textiles to tell stories, treating the human body as a canvas for memory, movement, and meaning. Working closely with artisans and communities across Africa, IAMISIGO transforms heritage textile techniques and unconventional materials into sculptural garments and installations. Each piece is made by hand, combining ancestral knowledge with experimental approaches and recycled materials. Rooted in research and craftsmanship, the work explores how materials, identity, and environment intersect—creating pieces that feel both timeless and forward-looking."
